Professional editors rarely touch their mouse during the cut. These 10 shortcuts are the foundation of fast, efficient editing in Premiere Pro.

The Essential 10

  3. Q — Trim the head of a clip to your playhead position (Top and Tail editing)
  4. W — Trim the tail of a clip to your playhead position
  5. Shift+Delete — Ripple Delete selected clip or gap
  6. C — Razor tool for splitting clips at playhead
  7. V — Selection tool (return to default after using razor)
  8. Cmd/Ctrl + K — Cut clip at playhead without switching tools

Building Muscle Memory

Commit to using only keyboard shortcuts for one full project. The first day will feel slower, but by the end of the project you'll be editing 40-50% faster. Every professional editor we work with at Southbound Studios uses keyboard-driven workflows exclusively during the cut.
